Hi, I’m Carey.
I’m a Certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist (C-SLDI) through the Center for Effective Reading Instruction. I’m a lifelong educator who believes that confidence and connection come before progress.
I use Orton-Gillingham–based instruction and a warm, individualized approach to help children discover that they can read and enjoy it.
With IMSE certification and LETRS training, I combine research-based techniques with empathy and patience. Every lesson is tailored to your child’s learning style and delivered with encouragement, care, and trust.
My Training & Approach
My approach is rooted in deep, evidence-based training. I completed a full IMSE practicum and passed the KPEERI exam, which goes beyond short courses to ensure mastery and application of Orton-Gillingham–based methods. This hands-on experience allows me to bring both expertise and compassion to each child I work with.
This deeper level of training reflects my belief that children deserve instruction that’s not only caring, but truly effective and grounded in science.
At Read Brave, learning happens through structure, trust, and encouragement. I meet each child where they are, breaking reading into small, achievable steps that build both skill and self-belief. Progress is celebrated every step of the way, because confidence is the foundation for growth.
Why I Started Read Brave
I started Read Brave because I’ve seen how deeply reading struggles can impact a child’s confidence and a family’s peace of mind.
When children feel safe, supported, and understood, they’re willing to try, and that’s when the breakthroughs happen. Read Brave was created to be that safe, encouraging space where progress feels possible and reading becomes a source of pride.
